Groundhog Notecard

from $3.50

This is a single vertical 4.25" x 5.5" notecard with an envelope. It is a folded card with a groundhog design on the front and blank on the inside for a note.

I have taken a little liberty with this “Groundhog.” My model for the facial expression in this design was a marmot. She was a jovial character that lived in the woodpile behind my cabin for a couple of winters. She always seemed a little surprised to see me, a little bit sassy, and pretty darn plump.

Groundhogs (also known as woodchucks) and Marmots are closely related. They are two of the largest rodents in the large squirrel family (Sciuridae) and both in the genus Marmota. There are 15 species of marmot. All groundhogs are marmots, but not all marmots are groundhogs. Groundhogs (Marmota monax) tend to be slightly larger than marmots (Marmota marmota) and have a more uniform coat color. Groundhogs live primarily east of the Mississippi in the US and Marmots to the west generally above 2000 feet. Groundhogs are less social than marmots and will burrow in more varied environments.
