Our frames are made from trees we log with mules in western Montana. The logs are either fire killed or from thinning projects with the goal of reducing wildfire hazard. We mill the logs into frame profiles on our sawmill and assemble them in our Montana shop. As we build our frames we do not cull out the pieces of wood that show the history of the trees and the forest they came from. We find those areas in the wood to be the most interesting aspects and they allude to the story of the tree. Some of our frames have knot holes, some have larvae holes and some are clear. Some have tight vertical grain and some have wide flat grain. All these marks tell the story of the tree and its history.
